RMA Blog Entry 4: Reflections

It is with great pride that I can announce the completion of my group’s Rollins Museum of Art teaching portfolio, themed to explore revolutionary moments in United States history.

Our final portfolio was presented to the associate curator of education at Rollins Museum of Art as well as Dr. Caroline Cheong, in as close a design as possible to the existing teaching portfolios on the RMA website. It was our hope that doing this would reduce any distractions from our content, which appears to have been successful! I am pleased to say that Mr. Matteson was very complimentary of our draft and had only minor suggestions for edits. Here are some of his comments:

“I am absolutely blown away by your incredibly thoughtful, enriching, and engaging portfolio. I have a few small copy edits, but overall, this portfolio is exceptional and raises such important and timely questions. Kudos for going above and beyond by developing discussion questions for both K-12 and college students. I am also amazed that you designed the portfolio. What fantastic attention to detail!”

This project has had some ups and downs in trying to develop the theme in a way that fit our vision in a way that we felt would be most useful to our (very) broad ranging public audience.

Please view our completed portfolio below and stay tuned for the hopeful addition of our teaching portfolio to the RMA website!

Our final step for this project is an in-class presentation of our teaching portfolio to the class, Dr. Cheong, Mr. Matteson, and RMA staff including Bruce A. Beal Director, Curator, and Associate Curator of Education of Rollins Museum of Art. With any luck, they will agree with Mr. Matteson's kind comments! It’s been a great experience to create this teaching portfolio which not only connects to many aspects of public history but also gave us a chance to engage with the educational community at Rollins while simultaneously allowing our work to be of use in classrooms for many years to come.
